POSTER

INTRODUCTION:

            A poster is any piece of printed paper designed to be attached to a wall or vertical surface. Typically posters include both textual and picture elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters are designed to be both eye catching and informative. Posters may be used for many purposes.

          Posters are a frequent tool of advertisers (particularly of events and films), and other groups trying to communicate message.

          Posters, in the form of placards and posted bills, have been used since earliest times, primarily for advertising and announcements.


EDUCATIONAL AND CLASSROOM POSTERS:

  • Posters are used in academic to promote and explain research work.
  • Posters are standard features of classrooms worldwide. A typical school will display a variety, including: advertisements, alphabets and grammar, numeracy and scientific tables; safety and other instructions, art work by the students.

HOW TO DO A GOOD POSTER:

  1. Make a heading:

Using your pencil, lightly draw the words in the heading.

  • For example, if you’re doing a poster for Earth day, you might put something like that at the top.
  • By drawing out the letters with light pencil first, you’ll be able to adjust so that the size is right. If it’s too big or too small, erase and start again. This is just a guideline, so don’t worry about making it perfect.
  • Fill in the middle:

Primary idea of poster is, it goes in the middle. For our Earth day poster, we’ll do a picture of earth. The same thing goes if it’s a student council poster or any other topic. You may have a college or a single picture, so just sketch in lightly where things will go.

  • Publish:

Write the publisher name at the end of the poster mostly right side corner. Write the heading as “POSTER”.

  • Find out formal poster and informal poster topic:

Basic elements that a poster should have in it are:

  • Theme/ topic/ Event
  • Purpose /occasion
  • Date, Time and place.
  • A message of appeal, awareness, caution, warning.
  • Slogans, catchy phrases.
  • Name of the individual/organizations issuing it.
  • Note:
  • Poster should be in a Full page.
  • You can use bright colours but it should not dominate wordings.
  • Border must be designed in an alternative way.
  • Poster should answer why, where, when, how, what kind of questions.
  • It should be clear and neat.
