INTRODUCTION:

            A written or spoken request for someone to go somewhere or to do something. It is the act of inviting someone. It is often considered as a request to be present or participate.

            Sending a formal invitation whether on paper or electrically is one of the most important steps in planning a formal event. It sets the general tone for the event and lets your guests know that what to except.

            Choosing the appropriate invitation wording for your event and then properly addressing the invitation can make your invitations look great and impressive.

How to write an invitation:

  • Heading must be on top of the page.
  • Title should be given for invitation.
  • Quote or “quotation” should be given.
  • Purpose of the invitation should be mentioned clearly.
  • Full page to be used.
  • Date, day, time, venue to be mentioned (if requires).
  • On the Bottom left corner, the words “Invited by” should be written.
  • Draw the border lines in a decorative manner.

Types of Invitations:

There are two types of invitations.

  1. Formal
  2. Informal
  3. Formal invitation

         It is an official type of invitation. For example, invitation for marriage, school, offices, organizations, annual days, sports etc., comes under this type of invitation.

1. Using proper wording for formal invitations:

  • Thursday, the first March  –   Correct

Thursday, 1st March            –   Wrong

  • 1 2 3 4 5 Sri Street – Correct

1 2 3 4 5 Sri st        – Wrong

2. Write out guest’s full names.

Ex: Stephen Smith Ste Smith

3. Include the hosts.

EXAMPLE 1:

Prepare an invitation for your school Annual day celebrations. [Mention, Date, Day, Time and Venue, Guests].

Z. P.H. SCHOOL, SECUNDRABAD  You are cordially invited to our Decennium Annual Day Celebrations. Guest               : K.T.R.
Chief  Guest    : K.C.R.
Lighting the Lamp : Harish Rao
Speech : All.
Cultural Programmes Song by          VIthGirls.
Dance by        VIIth Boys.
Skit by            VIIIthclass.

          Mr. and Mrs. Prasad           Request the honor of your presence at the wedding of their daughter. Karen Madhuravani To Mr. Joseph Sudhakar                    On the Nineteenth of February, at Twelve noon.                                       St. Joseph’s Church, Yeleswaram,
East Godavari District Andhra Pradesh.                                                                                      

 

EXAMPLE 3:

Mr. and Mrs. A. Udaykiran cordially invite Mr. and Mrs. M. Chinnapato  to the marriage ceremony of their daughter INDRANI to ARUN (Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Joseph)
at Green Park, Vizag, Andhra Pradesh,
on Saturday, 21stoct, 2018 at 4.00 pm
 and thereafter to reception at the
Maron Hall of the Green Park.   Shiva Road
Andhra Pradesh
