Through his sonsgs, the poet has sought his Maker all his life. Through his songs he grew in wisdom and saw the depth of reality. Throug his songs he hopes to reach his final destination – God.
The ocean of this universe hides in its depths the perfect pearl – God. The poet has ever been searching for this Infinite. He no more enjoys being tossed about by the waves, but is eager to die and become with the eternal
God has conquered the poet; he will lay akk that he has at the feet of his Victor and Master, and there he will weep out his pain. The loving and merciful God will bless him and call him, and he will gladly welcome death and go to Him
Life and death are presented here as the two breasts of the Divine Mother. we are born strangers in the world, but this mother nurses us. Birth brings the should into this strange world; death takes it to the unknown eternity. Taken from one breast, the baby weeps; put to the other, he is consoled. so does man, leaving life, find rest in death.
The poet is eager to set out on the journey of death. He hopes to meet God, his Beloved, at the end of the journey. He will dress like a bridegroom and go without fearing difficulties and dangers, sure to be welcomed by God.
God is the poet’s loving mother for whom he will weave a chain out of his pearl-like tears. It is not the offering of material wealthbut that of the tears and suffering of the devotee which is a genuine offering; it is valued by God for it purifies the soul and bringsit closer to Him.
God is present and active in nature at al times and in all places. He is kind and loving, and ever seeks our good. If we place our faith and trust in Him, He will do for us what we cannot, and fill us with His bliss. ON many an idle day have I grieved…
The poet desires intensely for reunion with God. He feels his life is of no use, and longs for divine light to enlighten him, to end his earthly life and to liberate him. He wants to be dissolved in the beauty of nature and become God’s plaything and finally become one with Him. I AM…
Though we cannot meet God face to face in our earthly life, we should never forget HIm. The pain of separation from God and the longing for reunion with Him should be in us constantly.
